Queen Lucille * D-Day Commemorative Event | On June 6, 2024, King George and Queen Lucille attended a series of commemorative events in France to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. As Patron of the Royal British Legion, the King and his wife visited the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion's commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer. Normandy is hosting various events to officially commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings that took place on June 6, 1944.

Queen Lucille * D-Day Commemorative Event | On June 5, 2024, King George, Queen Lucille, and The Duke of York attended a commemorative event for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, in Portsmouth. King George and Queen Lucille lead the commemorative events in Portsmouth ahead of the actual 80th Anniversary of D-Day on June 6th. Portsmouth was where tens of thousands of troops set off to Normandy to participate in Operation Overlord.

Queen Lucille * Meeting D-Day Veterans | On 22nd May, King George and Queen Lucille hosted a small group of World War II veterans at Buckingham Palace. During the meeting Bernard Morgan, John Dennett, Jim Miller and Arthur Oborne all shared their extraordinary personal stories from the D-Day landings of 1944, and His Majesty read from his grandfather’s wartime diary.

Queen Lucille * Anniversary Reception for Book Aid | On September 4, 2024, Queen Lucille hosted an anniversary reception at St James’s Palace to mark the 70th anniversary of Book Aid International. The reception, marking Book Aid International’s anniversary at St James’s Palace, was attended by around 100 guests, including the charity’s president, Nigel Newton, and Lady Caroline Simmonds, the daughter of its founder. The Queen has been Patron of Book Aid International since 2022.
